Multi-currency money transfers: when to use what

Wise, Revolut, and the banks all move money across borders. The right one depends on the corridor, the amount, and whether you need the recipient to receive local currency or your home currency.

High-street banks still charge 2-4% on FX with a flat fee on top. The challenger services (Wise, Revolut, OFX) sit closer to the mid-market rate plus a transparent 0.4-1.5% margin. The exact saving depends on the currency corridor — corridors with low liquidity (PHP, NGN, BDT) have wider spreads regardless of provider. What we don't track: crypto on-ramps, neobank account-opening bonuses, or credit-card sign-up offers. Those are different verticals. We focus on the cross-border transfer and multi-currency holding use case. Codes in this category typically unlock fee-free transfers for the first X transactions or a discount on the FX margin above a certain volume. Read the fine print — "unlimited free transfers" usually means under a per-month cap.
